Lynx Translator

The Lynx Translator is a ruggedized, handheld, high powered tablet PC, which was specifically designed and built to satisfy the demanding requirements of Two-Way Speech-to-Speech (2WSTS) Translation software. The many unique features of the Lynx make it an extremely flexible platform that works without the attachments of a microphone or headset under real world field conditions.

Lynx shown with optional accessories

  • Integrated Far Field Array Microphone: The Lynx provides unmatched ease of use, flexibility, and safety by eliminating the need for an external handheld microphone. This is accomplished by incorporating a six element phased array microphone with “follow the speaker” technology. The Lynx gives reliable speech recognition in the real world environments out to 10-12ft from the user.
  • Integrated Flat Panel, High Powered Speaker: A powerful integrated speaker driven by a 6 watt digital amplifier eliminates having to deal with external speakers and cables in noisy, outdoor environments.
  • Direct Sunlight Readable 6.4” Display and Touch Screen: Allows operation in the bright sunlight conditions. The display is also dimmable to levels compatible with Night Vision equipment.
  • Ruggedized, Light Weight Design: The Lynx is designed to operate in numerous configurations: one handed, wearable, or sitting on a platform. It is ruggedized to meet the demands for tactical military use and features dual, hot-swappable batteries which provide many hours of continuous use.
  • Modular ETX Industry Standard Computing Core: Use of the Industry standard ETX module provides a reliable roadmap for future upgrades to meet the ever expanding computing demands of 2WSTS translation software.
  • 2WSTS Software Vendor Neutrality: The Lynx platform supports full versions of 2WSTS translation software—from any vendor thus enabling the user to choose the best software for his spec ifi c application. The Lynx has been tested with 2WSTS software from SRI, BBN Technologies, IBM, ImageWare, AppTek, and Fluential.
  • Supports Users Other Computing Needs: The Lynx features an Intel® Core™ Duo ULV processor at 1.2GHz. with 2GB RAM, and a 32GB Solid State Drive (SSD). This Windows® XP or Vista system can not only host 2WSTS translation software but also can run any other programs such as situational awareness, mission planning, and biometric software.
  • Minimal Training and Support Required: Since the Lynx is Microsoft Windows® based most users already know how to use the system. Since it functions just like existing PCs it can be maintained by existing IT resources.
